Same Day Sick Visit Q & A

What is a same-day sick visit?

You can’t plan when your child is going to be sick. If they’ve been vomiting for two days straight, or you’ve noticed white spots on the back of their throat, it may be time to schedule a same-day sick visit with Dr. Pathak.

While not every physician offers same-day sick visits, Dr. Pathak and her team understand that going to the emergency room (ER) isn’t always the right call for your family.

In addition to long wait times and hidden expenses, the ER can feel stressful for your child. When they’re sick, children want to see a doctor they trust, in an environment that already feels safe and comfortable.

When should I schedule a same-day sick visit?

You should schedule a same-day sick visit with Dr. Pathak any time you believe your child is experiencing non-life-threatening symptoms that need same-day treatment.

Schedule a same-day visit right away if your child has:

  • A fever higher than 103 degrees
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea for longer than two days
  • A severe sore throat
  • Enlarged tonsils
  • White spots on the back of the throat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • An allergic reaction
  • A rash
  • A urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Lacerations or wounds that require stitches

If you’re unsure whether your child’s symptoms warrant a same-day sick visit, contact Dr. Pathak to speak to an expert.

What happens during a same-day sick visit?

During a same-day sick visit, Dr. Pathak and her team start by asking you and your child questions about their symptoms. It’s important to remember when they started, how long they’ve been happening for, and if they’ve improved at all.

Next, depending on your child’s symptoms, Dr. Pathak may perform a physical exam and diagnostic tests to check for:

  • Breathing difficulties
  • Congestion
  • Strep throat
  • Bronchitis
  • Pneumonia
  • Allergic reaction
  • Flu
  • UTI
  • Ear infection
  • Dehydration
  • Minor injuries and lacerations

After your visit, Dr. Pathak may either give you and your child a diagnosis and treatment options, order more tests, or refer you to another specialist. Her goal is to get your child back on their feet as soon as possible.

When your child is sick, the ER doesn’t have to be your only option. To schedule a same-day sick visit with an experienced pediatrician, call Anu R. Pathak, MD, or book an appointment online.
